Bluegrass Program
We want you to be part of one of Bowling Green’s only bluegrass/traditional music programs!
Bluegrass Program
Bluegrass music is a huge part of Kentucky’s cultural heritage and we’re extremely excited to be able to offer you this opportunity.
We want you to be part of one of Bowling Green’s only bluegrass/traditional music programs!
This class is taught by pickin’ and grinnin’ professional and two-time Kentucky State Bluegrass Banjo Champion Jordan Riehm. He is also a member of Kentucky Shine, an award winning regional Bluegrass band that’s based out of Owensboro, KY.
In the BGRBA Bluegrass Group Program we will team you up with musicians of varying skill levels and help you develop into true bluegrassers. We welcome musicians of all ages and all levels of experience – from beginner to advanced!
You’ll learn the hidden secrets of bluegrass jamming, improvisation, some of the history of bluegrass music, and you’ll even get to name your band. You’ll get more familiar with the Nashville Number system, which is commonly used in jam circles everywhere. Amplifiers aren’t a part of bluegrass, so you’ll learn how to properly play into a microphone with your instrument. Each instrument plays a specific rhythmic role in the Bluegrass rhythmic “engine”. In Bluegrass we don’t have drums, because we are the drum. You’ll learn the place of your instrument in the tradition and how to play a part that fits in context and matches your current level of experience. Your part will be tailored to your skill level and become a part of the band’s sound. You will be given learning materials that you can keep and study for months to come, even after the semester has ended.
Rehearsals happen weekly throughout a 9 week semester, and at the end of the semester your band will have the chance to mash on stage for all of your friends and family. The band will get to come up with their own set list, and will get the experience of a true show. You will leave with a better understanding of your role in a bluegrass band, be better equipped to jam with others and be on your way to joining a band of your own if you wish. Spots are limited per semester, so sign up now and don’t miss your opportunity to become part of the bluegrass family!
Only $275 per semester!
